Anamaria Bagarić (1991) is an author, dancer, and choreographer based in Slovenia, working in contemporary dance and performance. She began her professional career with Kjara’s Dance Project, where she worked as a young dancer. She presented her first solo work, Dark Matter(s) (2017), in Egypt and collaborated with the Cairo Opera House and the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center.

She graduated in Contemporary Dance in 2019 with the performance Prism. She regularly collaborates with the physical theatre collective Fourklor and works project-based with established Slovenian choreographers and directors. As part of her master’s studies at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana, she created the performance Coffee, Black (2022) under the mentorship of Tanja Zgonc. During her studies at AGRFT, she also created the documentary queer installation Find a Man / Open Day.

Her recent works include the performance series The Self Tethers (2024–2026), developed in collaboration with artists from various fields; the performance The World Tethers (2025); and the short-format work tissue:human (2025), co-created with Tajda Podobnik. She is currently developing an intermedia performance They Say, between Slovenia and Millstatt, Austria.

Bagarić’s work is driven by a rare intensity and devotion to process. Rather than relying on conceptual constructs or symbolic gestures, she demonstrates a highly refined and expressive physical language rooted in disciplined control of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and cartilage. Her movement does not seek representation, but presence—quiet, contained, and resistant.

Her work does not moralize or explain. Social and political questions are not presented through statements or narratives, but through concrete bodily situations and sustained physical presence.
